Broch, Hermann
(1886-1951)
   Austrian writer. Born in Vienna, he went to Realschule and was later given a vocational training. In 1909 he married and converted to Catholicism. He studied at the University of Vienna, while director of the family factory. He commenced his trilogy, Die Schlafwandler, in 1927. He then worked on a religious novel. His most important work is Der Tod des Vergil which was written in American exile.
